Artist Research: Andreas Lie
Andreas Lie is a Norwegian visual artist from Bergen; seven mountains surround the city he lives in. This is his inspiration and an influence for his work, where he creates amazing double exposures of the animals around him and then fills the silhouettes with their surroundings and habitats where they live. He uses photography and graphics to create his crisp designs.
The elements of his work that I like are his attention to detail, and crystal clear colours of
the surroundings within the animal’s silhouette. His pieces of work have depth and layers to it, so it makes the image that is 2 dimensional look more 3 dimensional. The background behind the animals in his work is very dull but that is a good thing because it doesn’t distract the viewer from what the main piece is. The only thing that I dislike about his work is that here is no reasoning behind why he has made these amazing pieces of work, which is a shame. He may want people to figure it out as to what they think it means to them.
The composition of his work is interesting, this is because he has put the final piece of work in the middle of the page, and this is to show off the beauty of the animals and the surroundings that they live in. The colours used in his work vary depending on the animal’s surroundings because some have very plain and dull coloured ones like trees and snow, whereas the polar bear in particularly is vibrant because it has greens, blues and other colours.
The technology that he uses to create his work is a computer that contains Photoshop, he has used the editing software to manipulate and alter the appearance of his work to create his double exposures. The effect that his work has on the viewer, in my opinion is that there is more to the animal than just itself, there is its surroundings to take into account as well.
The relation with Andreas’ work and surroundings is that he uses his surroundings to
produce his pieces of work. He uses the colours of his surroundings to his advantage. He has taken a lot of time and effort to achieve the final outcome.
