Artist Research: David Iwane
David Iwane also known as Davies Babies, is an artist, photographer, as well as a graphic designer, he lives in Colorado. He taught himself digital photography and to also use Photoshop when he was a teenager. His skills have progressed from there.
The components of his work that I like are his attention to detail in his work and a plain background, which make the animal stand out more. The other parts of his work that I like is his use of shadow to make the animals develop from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional, this is because he has added depth with the slight shadows around the animal to bring it off the page slightly. The only part of his work that I dislike is that there is not really a clear meaning behind why he has done what he has done, unless it meant for the person viewing it to make up there own meaning of what they think.
The composition of David’s work, is very simplistic when it comes to the animal as a whole and the background, because there is not lot going on in the background of the whole piece which helps the animal that is places in the middle, this brings the animal to life. The colours that he uses in his work vary depending on the animal’s surroundings as well as the animal itself.
The technology used in his work is a computer with Photoshop, where he has combined two drawings together to create a double exposure. The effect that this work has on the person viewing it, in my opinion, is that there is more going on in nature than what we first thought.
The relation between surroundings and David Iwane’s work is that he uses his surroundings where he lives in his work; he uses pastel colours in his work, which I find effective as it makes his work slightly smoother, and in some ways flow better.
